I am staring out into the world And if my eyes do not deceive I have found you without me And now I see you Time and time and time again No I never what this to end And I can stop pretending Cuz you are real to me My love So where do we go from here? To the eastern hemisphere Where the shadows rise and fall And we fall for love Like an ancient china cup I will not remain all broken up You hold me like a treasure Like I will always be enough This was meant to be a protest song But the politics were wrong Not a time to be sublime And I can only sing these love songs Since I met you This is where we start It’s the state of the heart Everytime I go to speak I only want to kiss your cheek To have us something we can keep Make it beautiful So we should see things from afar And understand just who we are From the highest mountain top You are beautiful to me This was meant to be a protest song But the politics were wrong Not a time to be sublime And I can only sing these love songs Since I met you This is where we start It’s the state of the heart Not a time to be sublime Let’s leave the politics behind We don’t have to tow the party line Cuz I hear a calling, from the end of time

Already Over My Head I followed the rules Kept up with the trends I’ve been a fool I nearly left me for dead And soon I became Bound by the borders On a worn out track Of followed orders Then right out of the blue I fell for you You opened my eyes to the truth Alt line. I was so blue Then I met you I’m already over my head It all seemed suspicious At least that’s what she said I’m already over my head Carefully You care for me I’m already over my head I stayed there too long On that broken down track One step forward Two steps back Over my shoulders Where the weight always lands Never seems to be a reason I can understand And when the answers arrive I can tell right away They’ve been waiting there all of my life I’m already over my head It all seemed suspicious At least that’s what she said I’m already over my head Carefully You care for me Cuz I’m already over my head Some days I’m grateful Some days I’m not I stay up all night Thinking a lot About things I can’t change And where I went wrong Beating myself up But trying to get along And so when the day ends And our love transcends I no longer have to pretend Cuz I’m already over my head It all seemed suspicious At least that’s what she said I’m already over my head Carefully You care for me Cuz I’m already over my head

Breathe 03:57
They say your only job is just to breathe Don’t get swallowed up from underneath There’s so much to work through It’s more about what you’ll know than what you ever knew Every second tested Life has never rested Everybody says it’s up to fate Taking it slow doesn’t mean you hesitate They claim that all the answers are in your heart But they don’t come out until the after part By the time you’re beyond this thing you’ve seen It changes what you think it means Days go by and still you just never know Takes more time than you’ve got to make it so There’s so much to work through It’s more about what you’ll know than what you ever knew

You’re as high as the north star As quiet as the moon And now there’s nothing left of our lives Here in this living room You rage like a river And I just stand and defend These lines I deliver When we can’t be friends But can we still be lovers? Can we still be lovers? We just keep getting older But we still believe we’re young And if our love grows much colder I know you’ll go looking for another one we’re strung tight like a drum And we never transcend So the day is now over And we can’t be friends So what will we remember Of all our history? Is it selfish to wonder If you’ll forget about me? Time will be calm and so silent Till our bitter end I go on and on like a fool When we can’t be friends When we can’t be friends But can we still be lovers? Can we still be lovers? But can we still be lovers? Can we still be lovers?

I’m just a little ways out of town Standing on an ocean of solid ground If you get the notion I’ll be around Cardinals and Blue jays return every spring And I’m longing for the songs they sing Won’t you come and see me sometime We can man the sails together Through the storms and the fairer weather Don’t need anchor or things that weigh us down We know how quickly the wind can change Even a whisper can turn a page Sail straight into the waves until it’s calm I want to sing you a lovers song I want to sing you a perfect rhyme Won’t you come and see me sometime Like a flare shot from a gun Like a lighthouse, like a distant sun A beacon in the night when we get lost Time is how we get to where you are We’ll turn the wheel towards a brighter star Risks like these often come with a heavy cost I wish that I knew you years ago Some wishes take longer, how can we know I am so grateful for all that I’ve learned so far I’ll keep a beautiful place for you in my heart And I’ll hold you close when it gets dark I’ll send you my love wherever you are

Letters 03:12
Today I’ll write a letter of love The kind I always hoped I’d write The kind that’s always on my mind She would want to read line by line Love is a promise I will keep Like a prayer before I go to sleep And I will dream that she has slept And dried the tears the night has wept But in the naked light of day She’s a beautiful reminder Of all the letters kept, but left unopened Still trying to find her Unfinished symphony of words It’s so hard to give away what you’ve sold And I’ve already begun to count the days Left to describe her. So as the ink presses to the page And time replaces innocence with age I’ll soon sign off and be on my way And know she will know this all one day But in the naked light of day She’s a beautiful reminder Of all the letters kept, but left unopened Still trying to find her I found a shoe box in a drawer My letters lined up like soldiers I had sent to war Like they were left for me to find So long after we had run out of time

We used to go out all night and then we’d sleep all day Never ever had a plan Nothing we had to understand We were life’s biggest fans Well I’m not sure when but it all turned upside down Where did all the good times go? And for all we’ve come to know What do we have to show? What do we have to show? How did all the good days disappear? When did our fortune turn into fear? Is there life left to reclaim We’ve gotta find a way We’ve gotta find a way Could it be we’ll be alright If we could just get some sleep tonight Knowing the world will change Maybe the sun can shine through the pouring rain I never had to listen to know just how you feel Now everything’s gotta be such a big deal To find time to just to share a meal Just the two of us How did all the good days disappear When did our fortune turn into fear Is there life left to reclaim We’ve gotta find a way We’ve gotta find a way Could it be we’ll be alright If we could just get some sleep tonight Knowing the world will change Maybe the sun can shine through the pouring rain Could it be we’ll be alright If we could just get some sleep tonight Knowing the world will change Maybe the sun can shine through the pouring rain

Cutting Room Floor La la la la la la A dream of you that remains The colours only turn to grey As it slowly slides from my grip Pictures of you that fade Still life in a photograph You come alive on the silver screen The director throws you back into the scene For all the world to see Oh, the film strip hits the ground You will now never be discovered Oh as the real goes round and round Cut for time and silence was the sound And I will never know who you are But you could have been a really big big star If they had made a movie picture show From the cutting room floor They say you always lit up a room Overexposed in black and white Your star was constantly on the rise In the darkrooms at night And suddenly everybody noticed you By morning you were the glamorous one Without the filter of the camera lens How were we to know what you’d become And I will never know who you are But you could have been a really big star If they had made a movie picture show From the cutting room floor Chorus And I will never know who you are But you could have been a really big big star If they had made a movie picture show From the cutting room floor

Turns To You 04:17
Will you hold me forever Never take your lips off mine Cuz we’re in this together Until the end of the end of time So let’s go make some memories And let’s make those moments last Just being who we are right now And forget all about the past Some things you just can’t predict But oh if we only knew How big our hearts will grow And just how fast my world turns to you Honey let’s leave the lights on So that all our scars can show Feel the warm and peaceful evening breeze And tell everyone we know Flying through the night sky On a sliver of the moon But nothing quite compares To waking up in your room Some things you just can’t predict But oh if we only knew How big our hearts will grow And just how fast my world turns to you We’ll find a place to hide away For love to take a stand And we can dance the night away Just come and take my hand Some things you just can’t predict But oh if we only knew How big our hearts will grow And just how fast my world turns to you

I’ll help you learn to ride a bike Run alongside you, holding on to the handlebars so tight Teach you how to move your feet And watch out for the cars Even though I know you’re gonna skin your knee On the dusty gravel out on the road I’ll hold on as long as I can, until I have to let you go until I have to let you go When you’re older you’ll fall in love You’ll move out on your own I’ll be there each time you heart breaks But then one day you’ll know, you’ll just know I’ll hold on as long as I can until I have to let you go Until I have to let you go And then I will walk you down the aisle I’ll be proud to give you away in style When you turn to me and give me a smile I’ll squeeze your hands so tightly I’ll hold on as long as I can until I have to let you go I’ll hold on as long as I can until I have to let you go Just as the sun sets in our sky And I am getting very very old We’ll watch the moon rise one more time When all’s been said and all’s been told And I’ll hold on as long as I can until I have to let you go And then you’ll have to let me go...

about

State of the Heart not only reflects Lindy's personal evolution toward a new love and revolution as a tighter songwriter, but also, the new life producer Danny Michel, who breathes new life into Lindy’s style, imbuing Lindy’s folk sound with a modern feel. The opening moments “State of the Heart” carry the audience in this new direction, as he sings: “This was meant to be a protest song, but the politics were wrong / Not a time to be sublime / let’s leave the politics behind.”

State of the Heart displays the synergy between the sound and vision of a meticulous perfectionist from a Southern Ontario rural-woods studio and the soul of a self-described ‘joyologist and freedom nerd’, newly transplanted to Hamilton, Ontario. The resulting energy enlivens the beautifully crafted tunes.

Since his first studio album in 1995, Lindy's original music has moved audiences. He's left listeners in love with his mile-wide smile and magnificent talent at house parties and bars, embassies, theatre halls (supporting Canadian duo, Whitehorse), and large festivals, including Montreal’s Osheaga (with Ian LeFeuvre and Todor Kobakov as the electronic pop group, Major Maker), Reykjavik Folk Festival, and Hillside Festival. On You Will Know When It’s Right (2019), Vopnfjord collaborated with Iceland’s legendary band, Nydonsk, to whom Lindy sang along growing up in his musical Icelandic family.

Compelled to write the world a song, Lindy’s “Look Me In the Eye” pays homage to environmental activist Greta Thunberg, while "No Place Left to Land" soundtracks the 2019 documentary Margaret Atwood: A Word after a Word after a Word is Power, featured at Toronto’s prestigious Hot Docs showcase. Passionate about both human rights and community action, Lindy also organized ‘HAMILTON LOVES YOU: Show of Support for Human Rights Activist Kidus Mehalu and Family’ in February of this year.
